Puppy potty schedule
Tell us your puppy's age and your day. We'll list when to head outside.
Also go out
- Right after your puppy eats or drinks a lot
- After a nap and after play
- Any time you see sniffing in circles or heading for the door
Reward every success outside right away with a treat and calm praise.
This is a starting point built on a common rule of thumb, not a medical measure. Every puppy is different. If accidents keep happening, or your puppy strains or seems unwell, ask your vet.
How we work it out: the common rule of thumb says a puppy can wait about one hour for each month of age, plus one, and no more than 8 hours. We suggest trips well before that limit, about every one sixth to one third of it, and we use the middle of that range.
